Green Lantern Injustice 2 Battle Simulator

Format: PS4
Played before?: Yes

Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. It’s something that artificial intelligence can’t do yet. They can’t, right?

It’s Green Lantern’s turn at the advanced battle simulator. He starts off at a level 6 but I do not. Oh, trust me. He’s a level 6 out of pure dumb luck and being able to be played in story mode. It’s very easy difficulty because that’s all I can handle.

A note before we delve into the very basic battles you’re about to read about, I wanted to talk about the look of the character. I mainly wanted to mention that in this version of battle simulator, I was using the John Stewart skin on the Green Lantern character rather than the standard Hal Jordan. This was interesting to me because it was the first time I had played a character using a completely different skin rather than just a shader adjustment. When I saw that I had the skin unlocked, there was no hesitation for me to use John over Hal. I don’t even know anything about Green Lantern, but everyone seems to agree that John is the better one.

Fight 1: Supergirl

We’re in the Brother Eye section of the Bat Cave. That’s just not going to change. I did at least manage to score a level transition down to the Armory, so at least there was some change of scenery.

Now, it’s been a really long time since I’ve played this character. To be fair, I can say that about any of the characters because of how I game in general. In my head, I remember Green Lantern being fairly easy to use. As noted in other playthroughs, my head likes to lie to me. I will be honest: I don’t think I ever got the hang of playing John throughout the entire simulator. I just felt like there was a disconnect between the buttons I pushed and the actions that happened on the screen. There probably wasn’t, but it just felt off to play the character.

I used a super move and ended the match.

Fight 2: Atom

This fight started in the Power Core section of Red Sun Prison and moved to the Containment Center.

Atom’s shrinking abilities annoy me. I know, that’s the point of him but I still find it annoying because I can’t track him if he goes small. I can see that he’s a little light when he goes small but it’s not bright enough to stand out against the scenery. Okay, obviously, it would make it super easy to fight him but to be fair, I am fighting on very easy. I only say this because I’m crap at avoiding him when he’s small. The only time he’s good for being small is during the clash sequence when he encases himself in the atom. It’s a very bizarre choice but understandable since that’s his thing.

I used a super move and ended the match.

Fight 3: Joker

This fight started at the Rock of Eternity in Kahndaq and moved back into Black Adam’s Palace.

Joker got the first hit. Incidentally, he got it by hitting me into the rock face in the background which is what I was trying to do to him. I will say, I might not be as good at getting the first hit as I think I am. I’m just not good at this game but I will torture everyone involved because I do like the game overall.

It was at this battle I started to worry about what the future was going to hold for me. I really was having a horrible time trying to get John to do anything but the very basics. I kept throwing out a lantern or something, but it was always behind the Joker. Therefore, it did nothing. The only Green Lantern power I really got was the one where he slams the opponent side to side. That’s ironic because that’s the one move I couldn’t do with Green Lantern in the first game.

I didn’t get a super move hit and normally ended the match.

Fight 4: Black Manta

This fight took place in Joker’s Playground.

This match had a challenge attached to win without using an arena transition. That was super easy since this stage doesn’t have a transition anyway. The programming isn’t perfect. You would think that if they gave you that challenge, you’d at least be on a stage where the potential to transition was there. At least it was easy challenge points.

Here was another instance of me completely failing with Green Lantern’s move set. The best I can describe my issues is that he seems...floaty. It seems like an odd descriptor because he’s not a floating character but that’s how his punches feel. It felt like I was using a Supergirl type character and well, I’m not good at her. I just don’t remember him playing like that. Part of me wonders if it’s the skin, but it can’t be because he still maintains all of the gear enhancements equipped despite not visibly showing them. I think I’m just really bad and that’s a completely logical explanation.

Super move used and the match ended. Green Lantern levels up to level 7.

Fight 5: Cyborg

This fight started in the Ace o’ Clubs in Metropolis and moved to Memorial Station.

I know I’ve spent the entirety of the fights complaining about how I don’t know how to play with Green Lantern, but this fight was actually rather easy. It was the only fight I didn’t get somewhat pummeled in. I don’t know why because I know I didn’t learn how to play the character between the last fight and this fight. Cyborg was just a really easy match. While fighting the match, I kept muttering to myself, “This is a fluke. This is false hope.”

There was no super move this time to end the match.

Fight 6: Superman

This fight took place in the Fortress of Solitude.

Superman really likes his throw move. I say this because he kept doing it to me and it seemed like the only move he did against me. Of course, he would also get hits on me while I was falling back down to the ground so double the pain. That’s okay. I kicked him into his face a couple of times. It’s all good.

I used a super move and ended the match.

Fight 7: Wonder Woman

This fight took place at the Empire Theater in Gotham.

This fight had a challenge attached to use 6 medium attacks. That’s a challenge that actually made sense and I completed it. I mean, it just meant that he uppercut her six times because that’s the only medium attack I could get a hit or figure out how to use.

It was here that I realized that the AI was really good at juggling me if they hit me in the air. I am not, at least not with Green Lantern. Look, he can punch and sometimes do that weird kick swirl. If I’m lucky, I can get the side smashing move. He’s not doing his best but he’s winning. That’s not really good but neither am I.

I used a super move and ended the match.

Fight 8: Brainiac

Since I was having a lot of issues playing Green Lantern, I foresaw this match not going well. For a few seconds, it wasn’t. He got first hit. His stupid tentacles kept juggling me. I retreated to using the strategy I picked up playing Enchantress. Crouch-punch-punch. I did get a little cocky and used the side smashing move a few times and I paid for it every time. The strategy did work. I surprisingly did not lose to Brainiac. When I started the simulator, I definitely thought this was going to be a two battle fight.

I used a super move and ended the match.

The Ending

So, as I stated at the top of the playthrough, I was using the John Stewart skin on the Green Lantern. The ending does not take this skin or voice into account. The ending is still Hal Jordan’s. I feel that the ending would be more impactful if I knew anything about Green Lantern. I get that there are different corps with different color schemes to represent emotions. Yellow is fear, red is anger, and I don’t know what the other colors represent. I mean, I have honestly no clue what the green is supposed to be. My understanding of the character is that he creates things with his mind and it correlates to the ring. I don’t know, I don’t even think I understand that.

Look, I know I sound like an idiot here. I’m trying.

Overall Score: 982,413

Once again, another competitor that doesn’t crack the top five. I still stare at Catwoman and wonder how the hell she’s at the top. I know I still have a lot of characters to go, but I feel she’s going to hang onto that top spot for quite a while.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:

  1. Catwoman (1,063,054)
  2. Green Arrow (1,057,829)
  3. Doctor Fate (1,040,263)
  4. Cyborg (1,030,601)
  5. Swamp Thing (1,027,787)

Until the next battle, where I hope I stop relying on my memory to play the battle.
