TMNT Injustice 2 Battle Simulator

Media type: Video Game
Title: Injustice 2 (Legendary Edition)
Released: May 11, 2017
Format: PS4
Played before?: Yes

Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. We’ve made it to the end of this ill-fated plan to write about my experience playing video games. I say ill-fated in that no one cared about my experience. I’m still going to continue on writing about other games.

We’ve made it the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles simulator. For this particular instance, I was playing as Leonardo since he had the best weapon stats. As usual, this was played on very easy and he started out at level 4.
TMNT in this game is so bizarre to me. I really don’t understand them here. While DC characters do appeal to children, they go to some very gritty place (like this storyline) that maybe aren’t as suitable depending on the age of the child. Then there’s the addition of two Mortal Kombat characters and Hellboy. TMNT is completely cartoonish here and not necessarily in a good way. While levity is appreciated, there were probably better ways to handle adding it to the game.

Fight 1: Deadshot

It’s the last time we’re starting at the Brother Eye level of the Bat Cave. It’s almost a little bittersweet.

Of the four turtles, Leonardo is the one I have the least trouble with. I like using the swords, since it’s weaponry that was popular 200 years ago. I’m not good with modern weaponry, nor do I like it. This sounds weird but it makes sense to me.

From what I recall, Leonardo relies on the other turtles much more than the others. His mid-fight taunt has one of the other turtles join in. His throw features one of the turtles helping. His character power randomly calls one of the other three to hit my opponent. There is the super move, but it’s the same super move for all four turtles so it’s less overt. It’s nice because they are a team and should work as a team, even if you’re forced to choose one as your main fighter.

A super move was used to finish the fight. Side note: I really dislike the win screen for the turtles. The pizza looks absolutely disgusting. It looks worse when it’s thrown at the screen.

Fight 2: Cyborg

The fight started in the Power Core before moving the Containment Center in Red Sun Prison.

PERFECT! It was a perfect match and, as usual, I have no clue how I pulled it off. I keep pulling these off on characters that I’m not great at fighting with. I will say that I don’t actually know how to fight with Leonardo because I couldn’t figure out the swords most of the time. Even though it’s weaponry I like, I couldn’t find those moves most of the time.

There was no super move to end the fight. Leonardo leveled up to level 5.

Fight 3: Black Canary

The fight took place in the Fortress of Solitude.

I don’t really understand how TMNT fits into this universe. Splinter apparently knows the DC characters, which doesn’t make sense to me. While I don’t know much about DC, I really don’t get how TMNT connects with DC. Especially with how the ending sets up TMNT’s introduction to the Injustice universe.

The fight wasn’t particularly tough. I spent most of it staring at Dinah because, as established, I love her as a character. She did hit me with her super move, which is never fun.

I managed to use a super move to end the fight.

Fight 4: Batman

This fight took place at Memorial Station in Metropolis.

There was a challenge attached to use nine heavy attacks. I managed to complete this challenge with ease.

It’s no secret that the AI Batman loves to use the grapple gun to attack. What’s funny is watching the AI spam the grapple gun three times in a row while I stay crouched on the other side of the screen. Then, he activated his super move which was him flailing onto the ground because I was too far away from him. It’s unusual to see Batman anything less than composed so it was nice to see that he can fail like us normal people.

I used a super move to end the match.

Fight 5: Black Manta

The fight took place in Gorilla City.

Why is Black Manta the only character that can fly around? There are other characters capable of flight in the game, most notably Supergirl and Superman. Yet neither of them can fly around the stage like Black Manta can. I get that he has a jetpack but it doesn’t really work when the mechanic isn’t used for other characters. It makes him more annoying to fight.

A super move was used to end the fight.

Fight 6: Leonardo

The fight took place in the Cell Block of Arkham Asylum.

There was a challenge attached to use three throws. I only did one. I did try but the AI was battering me pretty hard.

I’m usually annoyed when the battle simulator forces me to fight myself. This really annoyed me because there are three other turtles it could have chosen this time. Why did I have to fight Leonardo? I feel like he’s the default turtle, in a sense. He’s the one that will appear more often than not and he’s the one the game will default to in character selection unless you’ve changed the gear beforehand.

He managed to use his super move against me. That was all right because I hit him with that same super move right back. Leonardo leveled up to level 6.

Fight 7: Superman

The fight took place in the Empire Theatre Prop Room in Gotham.

I feel like the developers took a bit of a lazy route when it came to the turtles. So much of their opening dialogue is recycled and not character specific. I swear every single intro I got was Leonardo in a trench coat and never the one where he starts on the ground. The one on the ground is way cooler, but that’s just my opinion. I get that they had to, essentially, develop four characters under one banner but they really feel tacked on. They don’t feel like they really belong in the game.

The fight itself wasn’t difficult. I managed to block Superman’s super move out of sheer luck. Even by this point, I was still iffy on using Leonardo’s moves because of how little he was actually programmed to use his swords.

I used a super move to end the fight.

Fight 8: Brainiac

It’s the last time I have to deal with this bitch. I’m not at all sad about that fact. He even helpfully reminded me why I hate him by using his mega-tentacles to do a supreme amount of damage to me. It may be a little bittersweet to finish these simulators because I did actually have a good time doing this. I will never look back on any Brainiac fight fondly.

The Ending

This wasn’t really an ending but a self-contained story about how TMNT fit into the Injustice universe. The story wasn’t really there. The four constantly talking over each other was annoying. Too much time was spent on who Krang was and what was happening in their original universe. It felt like the Injustice universe meant nothing when that’s the point of this game. Things should mainly take place in this universe. The only significant thing was that Harley gave them a pizza laced with drugs. I don’t really buy her doing that because what purpose does that serve? It just felt like a huge mess of a story for characters that didn’t fit in the first place.

Overall Score: 960,234

There’s the final simulator score. Below are winners of the simulator and I’ll do another piece that no one cares about with some statistics about my experience with the simulator. It was, overall, fun to do. At this rate, I can’t expect everyone to read things. Particularly when I’m writing about a game that’s almost three years old.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:

  1. Starfire (1,098,614)
  2. Raiden (1,073,102)
  3. Brainiac (1,064,656)
  4. Catwoman (1,063,054)
  5. Green Arrow (1,057,829)

See you for the next game!
