Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. Another post, another chance to see how bad I am at games.

This will focus on the Superman Advanced Battle Simulator. This is played on the very easy difficulty, with Superman starting at level 5.

I will preface this now. This is not going to be an eventful simulator. For some reason, I’m actually pretty good at playing with Superman.

Fight 1: Blue Beetle

As always, it starts in the Brother Eye stage of the Bat Cave but I did manage to level transition down to the Armory. That’s a rarity for me.

The fight was relatively simple, a phrase that will be common throughout this post. It didn’t take much to get back in the swing of the fight, unlike most of the fighters. With the combination of environmental interactions and powerful attacks, Blue Beetle went down. There were a few hits on me while trying to get back into the swing of it.

Super move was used and ended the fight. Superman moved up to level 6.

Fight 2: Green Lantern

This took place in Joker’s Playground.

The fight had a challenge attached to use 10 jump attacks. I did not complete this challenge, as I didn’t even use one jump attack. I will admit that I’m not great with the characters when they attack in the air.

The fight was a simple one, yet again. Green (or should I say orange, since that’s the color scheme he popped up in) Lantern did use his super move against me. His isn’t a super move you can block by crouching because he just stomps you instead. It was most of the damage I took, which isn’t horrible.

I used my super move and ended the fight.

Fight 3: Hellboy

This fight started in the Power Core stage of Red Sun Prison and moved to the Containment Center.

I do appreciate that in using Superman for the level, he’s not in the prison cell in the background. Not that I don’t feel the game would’ve just hand waved him back there, but it makes it a nice foresight for the developers.

Once again, not a difficult fight. Between the throws and heat vision, Superman does some serious damage. That’s not even counting the environmental interactions that I utilize during the fights. Superman is a really good fighter for people who aren’t used to fighting games, even if he can be overpowered at times. He’s much easier to learn than a lot of the other characters.

I used a super move to end the fight.

Fight 4: Black Adam

The fight took place in the Command Center in Atlantis.

The biggest issue here was Black Adam’s lightning attacks. They aren’t easy to dodge, especially when he activates his character power lightning. He has to be hit for them to go away, but I’m not smart enough to know the range attacks. Therefore, I take damage trying to hit him. Luckily, he didn’t utilize the lightning dash attack, where he tackles you across the level. I really hate that attack because I can never block it.

Other than that, the fight was relatively simple. It’s getting really hard to discuss when nothing major really happens during the fight.

A super move was used to finish the match.

Fight 5: Robin

This fight started at the Rock of Eternity and moved to Black Adam’s Palace in Kahndaq.

A challenge was attached to use 4 medium attacks. This challenge was completed with no issues whatsoever. I like it when the challenges are simple for me.

So, this was an actual fight. Damien was actually kicking my ass for a little bit. He used a super move on me and everything. He even knocked me down to one health bar. One thing I do have to praise is that Clark and Damien actually interacted like they knew each other. I have been having issues with most of the characters seemingly ignoring their histories, but they actually acknowledge that Damien has been training under Clark for a while.

I eventually used a super move and finished the match. Superman moved up to level 7.

Fight 6: Harley Quinn

This fight took place at the Empire Theatre front in Gotham.

Again, I liked that the beginning interaction actually acknowledged issues between the two. I don’t fully agree with Clark in the Injustice main story on how to deal with criminals, but I do agree with him that Harley is a dangerous individual and it’s not great that Bruce does trust her after everything she’s done. Not saying that she can’t be rehabilitated but they don’t fully lay the groundwork for that.

The fight wasn’t hard but I will say that I did miss with my super move against her. I didn’t time it right and she had still been knocked down when Superman does his rush. So instead, he flew over her head. I did manage to miss her move by punching her out before her super move was fully activated.

Fight 7: Captain Cold

This fight took place in the Fortress of Solitude.

This wasn’t a hard fight. I don’t know how many different ways I can state that. Honestly, Superman is a very overpowered character but that makes sense. Most of who he’s fighting against are normal people with some limited enhancements. Though, I say this and yet Supergirl is the worst character to play in the game, for me. I wouldn’t think she would play so differently, but she does.

A super move was used to end the fight.

Fight 8: Brainiac

I was slightly disappointed that there wasn’t more tension between the two. The opening interactions were very plain for being such a main part of the actual game. I guess the developers felt that their conflict is covered enough in the game proper without fully moving it to the battle simulator as well.

I was doing well against Brainiac and then I got cocky. Unfortunately, Superman’s throw moves throw his opponent a little further than I’d like. This isn’t a problem for the rest of the characters, just Brainiac. Only because he has his stupid tentacle moves that I can’t block if I don’t hit him in time.

I managed to use a super move and ended the fight.

The Ending

For a little bit, it felt like they lost the thread of Superman’s issues in the Injustice story. I don’t buy Superman wanting to conquer the worlds that Brainiac had stolen. I also don’t fully buy him going to other worlds and using their heroes, especially because it’s not established that Superman is tapping into the multiverse. He’s just supposed to be going into already stolen worlds, which are assumed to be in the Injustice universe. He also still has allies in the Injustice universe, particularly since most of the heroes depicted in the end are the ones that are on his side for most of the story. To be fair, there could’ve been some other heroes that hinted at the use of multiverse characters, but I was really distracted that in his Legion, there was a bunch of Cthulhu looking monster in pink nightgowns. What the hell are those and where did he find them?

Overall Score: 1,003,476

He at least broke a million, which is rare for a character I do really well fighting with. Still couldn’t crack the top five though.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:

  1. Catwoman (1,063,054)
  2. Green Arrow (1,057,829)
  3. Doctor Fate (1,040,263)
  4. Cyborg (1,030,601)
  5. Swamp Thing (1,027,787)

Until the next battle, where all the confidence will dwindle away. As it should.
