Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. Because we all know, reading is fun! As well as no one needs to see how badly I play. Let’s leave that to the words.

This review will focus on the Battle Simulator mode with Swamp Thing. It’s on very easy difficulty because I suck at video games and no one needs to read about how it took me three times to defeat Brainiac on easy.

Swamp Thing was level three when I started. Before I get into the actual fights, I want to talk about Swamp Thing’s character design. He looks ridiculous, especially in some of his gear pieces. Though, in researching the character, I saw what the base character looked like. I will admit that every single character is gear equipped, so it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the original character. He looks down-right tiny without the fifty million branches that cover him in the extra gear. Also, my Swamp Thing was wearing a weird crown headpiece and I had no idea where his eyes were in every single character introduction. It was a little bizarre.

Fight 1: Catwoman

It’s looking like my theory is correct in that every simulator is going to start in the Brother Eye section of the Bat Cave. That could change, but I’m pretty sure it won’t. She had a challenge attached to use 10 medium attacks, which I think I’ve finally figured out is the triangle button. The major recurring problem is that I don’t know how to use Swamp Thing. I thought he fought like Hellboy, but he doesn’t. I’ll get into that later.

I managed to transition to the Armory level, so it’s always fun to see Killer Croc pop up. Catwoman attempted to use her super move, but she missed. I, unfortunately, did not get to use my super move.

Fight 2: Firestorm

Ah, Slaughter Swamp. I kind of hate this stage because there’s not really much to it. Also, I’ve played on this particular stage way too much.

Firestorm kept burning my legs, which was a nuisance. There were some environmental interactions. He attempted to use his super move, which I blocked. It just meant I used mine and finished the match.

Fight 3: Wonder Woman

This one took place in the Joker’s Playground, which is honestly another stage I never really get to play. She had a challenge attached, which was to use 5 special moves. I figured out that those were the combo moves. Now, doing those combo moves was a different story. I have no clue what Swamp Thing’s combos are.

Now, she managed to hit me with her super move. I was not happy with that because I can never block them in enough time. I was also a little surprised because of how many super moves had been attempted against me already. She also initiated a clash that went nowhere because she did after her super move and I wasn’t wasting my bar on it.

I did use my super move against her, which was a little uncertain. She got knocked out in the initial hit meaning that the ensuing cut scene isn’t played. I honestly forgot if that counted in the score tally as a successful super move. Spoiler Alert: It does.

Swamp Thing went to level 4 which doesn’t help me fight as him better.

Fight 4: Captain Cold

The stage was the Ace o’ Clubs in Metropolis. The fight was kind of hard. I really have no clue how to fight with this character. Mostly because I keep hitting the shoulder spikes and those don’t really amount to much if the opponent isn’t in the air.

I threw the guy at the bar at him, which is the strangest interaction in the game. I managed to do the level transition. Once again, ended with another uncertain super move because I wasn’t paying attention to his life bar and hit it a little late.

Fight 5: Cheetah

This one took place in the Cell Block at Arkham Asylum. I take back what I said about Cheetah being an easy opponent to fight against. I really had issues with her. Most of which stemmed from the stupid hand vines that come out of Swamp Thing. Instead of hitting the opponent, I get those and that messes up the rhythm. Somehow, we got to switch sides and I managed to do a level transition to the Front Gates stage. I was at least happy with that.

I used the super move and ended the fight.

Fight 6: Cyborg

The level was the Empire Theater Prop Room in Gotham. Somehow, I managed to get a perfect first bar on Cyborg. No, it does not mean that I learned how to play with Swamp Thing. Cyborg just sucked for the first part of the match.

I actually got two level transitions on him, the second of which finished the match. A clash was done, which I lost because I wagered nothing. It wasn’t worth it since he had a full meter bar and I think I only had two filled bars.

No super move in this match and Swamp Thing went up to level 5. It’s still not an indicator of the player’s skill level.

Fight 7: Poison Ivy

The level started in the Trench Queen Nursery in Atlantis. It was a little strange that their character intros didn’t really feature them talking about the Green. They are the two characters who feature heavily with it in opposing stances on how to utilize it. To be fair, all I’ve really got about the Green is that it seems like an allegory for Mother Nature.

I did the level transition to the Command Center. It’s nice to see Black Manta. Spoiler Alert: I like how his character fights. Future Prediction: Watch me fail completely using him. Anyway, I’ve been trying to figure out what Swamp Thing’s character power does. I have now gone and read what it is and I still don’t get it. I guess I cannot strategically figure out how to use the small damage area spreads that some characters have.

Annoyingly, Poison Ivy blocked my super move so I had to finish her off normally.

Fight 8: Brainiac

It’s everyone’s favorite fight. Now, I will say, I managed for a good bit just hitting him. Then I got messed up with the stupid hand vines and it allowed him to get quite a few hits on me. He did knock me down to one bar.

I unwittingly blocked his super move, which was great. For once, I was being smart about the character I was playing. I realized I was too far away from Brainiac to do damage so I stayed crouched until he moved towards me. Will I ever use this lesson again? We’ll see.

I used my super move on him and ended the match.

The Ending

So, he takes over the Earth with the Green. As I stated earlier, all I can guess is that the Green is a stand in for Mother Nature. I’m sure it’s more nuanced and complicated than that, but maybe it’s not. I also don’t understand how he has wings because he’s basically a plant person. I think that’s a separate issue I have and that has to do more with my lack of knowledge about this character. That’s going to be an extremely common theme throughout.

Overall Score: 1,027,787

Somehow, I got a better score than the previous two but I had the worst time fighting with him. Seriously, I really hope this is not an indicator of who I fight best with.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:
  1. Swamp Thing (1,027,787)
  2. Sub-Zero (991,455)
  3. Hellboy (962,000)
Until the next battle, where I am hopefully more confident in how badly I play.
