Format: PS4

Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. Writing is making a comeback. No, seriously. Let me have my fantasy.

This review is about the battle simulator with Green Arrow. It’s on the very easy difficulty. I’m not apologizing for that. He started off at level 4.

I will say, Green Arrow is a character I’m at least slightly familiar with. Only because I have watched a bit of the tv show. I am completely aware that the character in the show is absolutely nothing like the comic book character. If we’re being honest, I like the Injustice character twenty times better than the one on the show. I’m also aware that the Injustice character isn’t the main comic line version of Green Arrow either.

Fight 1: Black Canary

It’s Brother Eye in the Bat Cave. Still hasn’t changed.

We went with a lover’s quarrel for our first match. I was just happy because it meant that I could get the trophy for defeating Black Canary with my super move. Trophy hunting is not something I’m actively into, but I do enjoy getting the trophies. The same goes with achievements over on Xbox. I also kind of prefer the achievement system over the trophy system. This is neither here nor there and has nothing to do with this battle simulator.

I was really close to a perfect match this fight. She began to hit back in the last little bit of her health bar. I also realized that while I’m decent at playing with Green Arrow, I’m not great at his combos. Mostly, it’s because I can never get him to shoot his arrows in the correct direction.

I used the super move and ended the match.

Fight 2: Harley Quinn

Aptly, this took place in Joker’s Playground. I always appreciate when the opponents are on stages that make sense to the character.

This had a challenge to use my character power three times. I did use his power, which was shooting an arrow. It didn’t really seem special or different from any other time he shoots an arrow. It’s after I’ve finished the battle, I learned that there was more to the power than just pressing the button once. I’m not really good at exploring characters in the heat of battle. And yes, I have gone into practice mode. There’s just too much going on for me to really get a grasp of playing the character.

Speaking of character special powers, Harley’s always gets me. I forget every single time that I have to jump out of the way of her hyenas instead of going into block stance.

I used the super move and ended the fight.

Fight 3: The Flash

This fight took place in the Fortress of Solitude.

This fight wasn’t special. A standard punch and kick sort of fight. Flash didn’t put up much of a fight. So much so, I didn’t get to fill my meter to use a super move. Therefore, he was defeated normally.

I will say, Green Arrow’s a really quippy character. I started to notice that he talks throughout the fights. Most say something in the intro and the first health bar knockout. Oliver doesn’t stop talking. It’s definitely a nice touch to differentiate him from the other fighters.

Fight 4: Black Adam

The stage was Black Adam’s Palace in Kahndaq. Again, the character fit the stage.

I did hit level transition in the stage down to the Rock of Eternity. The biggest problem I had was Black Adam’s lightning attacks. I’m not good at blocking lightning attacks, whether they’re Black Adam’s or Raiden’s. I mean, to be fair, I’m not good at blocking most attacks. I’m just especially bad with the lightning ones.

I used the super move and finished the fight. Green Arrow leveled up to level 5.

Fight 5: Superman

The level was Gorilla City.

I really think the AI is programmed to absolutely go ham on the animal interactives. Every single time I play on this level, I always get thrown into those interactives multiple times. I swear they do not use environmental interactions that much on any other level.

Other than that, it was another standard fight. I used the super move and ended the match.

Fight 6: Hellboy

This fight started in the Empire Theater Prop Room in Gotham. I easily got the level transition down to the Empire Theater front in Gotham.

This fight had the challenge attached to use 2 heavy attacks. That’s actually the lowest number I’ve seen for an attack challenge. I didn’t even have to think about using the attacks which helped me greatly. I was rinsing Hellboy until he was down to half a health bar. Then, per the AI, he started fighting back hard. I notice that the AI will do anything to get you to not have a perfect match. I’m sure it’s easier than I’m making it, but to be fair, I’m also not good at video games.

I used the super move and ended the fight.

Fight 7: Cheetah

The fight started at Memorial Station in Metropolis. If Metropolis comes up, usually it starts in the bar. It was nice to see the other level for more than a few seconds. I mean, I did level transition over to the Ace o’ Clubs but not until Cheetah was down a health bar.

She hit me hard. Her little air scratches do a lot of damage. It also knocks me out of block stance which is probably why the AI would keep using that move.

I used a super move in the end and finished the fight.

Fight 8: Brainiac

I was slightly worried about this fight. By this point, I could get the exploding arrow directions down. The problem was that they knocked my opponents out of my reach. That’s really dangerous with Brainiac. He needs to be close range so that you can keep hitting him and he can’t use his stupid moves.

I always go for the level transition because it takes a good chunk of health out of him. Also, he’ll just keep knocking me into his chair if I don’t move us away from that section. He also attempted to use his super move, but I blocked it. By the end of the fight, I had managed to still have a small part of my first health bar left. Going in, I definitely thought that I would have at least lost one of the bars.

The Ending

Something that was never explained and yet I completely got was that this Green Arrow was not from the game’s universe. I did wrongly think that it was Oliver from the first Injustice game. I only say that because I remember his battle story ending with him visiting the Regime universe. This Oliver is apparently from another universe that we haven’t seen. It doesn’t really make a major difference to me, except for the ending. When he discusses going back to his original universe to stop Brainiac, I thought it was the main universe from the first game. Upon learning the above fact, it’s not. I appreciate the thread between all of the Green Arrows wanting to save other universes from horrible fates. I obviously don’t know which versions of Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman came to him, but I liked that it was obviously a touch to comic fans.

I do have to wonder what Dinah has to say about this portal jumping. They have a kid, who apparently is a meta-human. She also was the one who convinced Doctor Fate to bring Oliver to the Regime universe in the first place. It’s a little bit of a miss when so much of the main story revolves around the two of them being a couple.

Overall Score: 1,057,829

If I had hit that super move in the Flash battle, he would’ve dethroned Catwoman. She stays strong at the top of the list and Sub-Zero gets kicked off.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:

  1. Catwoman (1,063,054)
  2. Green Arrow (1,057,829)
  3. Doctor Fate (1,040,263)
  4. Cyborg (1,030,601)
  5. Swamp Thing (1,027,787)

Until the next battle, where I can already say that it’s going to be filled with badly played fights.
