Released: May 11, 2017
Format: PS4
Played before?: Yes

Hey peeps and welcome to a written playthrough of Injustice 2, specifically the Battle Simulator. I would say that we’re in this battle together, but I’m the only one fighting here. Everyone else is just reading about my attempts.

It’s finally that bitch’s turn. We’ve made it to Brainiac’s advanced battle simulator, played on very easy difficulty. He started at level 4.

If there’s one thing consistent about these playthroughs, it’s that I hate fighting Brainiac. He is a bitch of the highest order. I would apologize for using unfriendly language, but I’ve already established that in thirty other playthroughs that I don’t write these in a formal manner. It’s not the most professional but I’m also not writing a college thesis on this game either. Back to the point, I hate Brainiac. I had never heard of this character before this game but I absolutely despise him now. Fighting with him, well, you’ll read how that turns out.

Fight 1: Red Hood

As usual, this started out at the Brother Eye level but I actually got a level transition to the Armory.

There was a challenge attached to the fight to use no jump attacks. I completed this because I don’t jump voluntarily. Therefore, I use no jump attacks in fights anyway.

I’m very familiar with how Brainiac attacks. I’ve fought his AI thirty-something times. His main source of attack are his tentacles. They aren’t bad except that I could see that his back tentacles would become a problem. It was mainly the multi-tentacle back attack. It would work if I could figure out how to juggle my opponent but this is me. I’m not that coordinated.

I used a super move to end the fight.

Fight 2: Robin

The fight took place in Gorilla City.

Solidifying his place as a commonly fought opponent, Robin was surprisingly not tough. From the intro dialogue, Brainiac is interested in Ra’s. Is he interested for collection purposes or killing purposes? I would understand Brainiac thinking Ra’s is a unique specimen because of his “supposed” immortality. Yet, I could also see that Brainiac would see Ra’s as a threat because of this same immortality. Once again, I’m focused on the weirdest aspects of this game. Honestly, if they make a third Injustice game, they should put Ra’s al Ghul in the game. He’s been mentioned multiple times by now and I could see him trying to convince Bruce to use the League to help defeat Clark. Or to back Clark since Damian has solidified his place at the Regime.

A super move was used to end the fight.

Fight 3: Swamp Thing

The fight began in the Containment Center before moving to the Power Core in Red Sun Prison.

My Brainiac is not as powerful as the AI Brainiac. I do know that some of his moves are actually abilities. I’m guessing giant tentacles would be one of those, unless it’s only tied to Brainiac’s ship. I’ve never seen Brainiac on any other stage except when I play so I don’t know. I do know that I have the Ion Cannon ability unlocked but I don’t understand how to use it. I’m guessing it’s tied to meter burns which would explain why I don’t use it.

I used a super move to end the fight. Brainiac leveled up to level 5.

Fight 4: Black Manta

This fight took place at Joker’s Playground.

There was a challenge attached to use two ducking attacks. Once again, a challenge I could complete.

Here’s where the fights started to turn against me. For me, Brainiac’s not really all that powerful without his bitch moves that the AI loves to spam. Black Manta was relentless in this fight. He spammed his harpoon gun. He flew in the air. He did that move where he goes “underwater” and uppercuts you. The tentacles I did have just couldn’t keep up. I started to lose my tenuous handle on Brainiac’s moves.

I used a super move and ended the fight.

Fight 5: Blue Beetle

The fight took place in Slaughter Swamp.

Any good moves I had learned how to do by this point, I had completely forgotten them. I was losing momentum and skill during the fight. The only proper thing I did was block Blue Beetle’s super move. Of course, this all labors under the delusion that I have any skill with this game in the first place. I never found Brainiac difficult to use. I just couldn’t do the damage I know he’s capable of. I know that there are a lot of factors into why this is, but all I know is that fighting with Brainiac was going downhill.

A super move ended the fight.

Fight 6: Bane

The fight started at the Rock of Eternity before moving to Black Adam’s Palace in Kahndaq. In a very rare turn of events, I was the one that was hit through the level transition. I did not like this turn of events.

This fight was unreasonably tough. I was down to half a health bar. This is the sixth fight of eight and I had yet to face the AI bitch himself. I was not holding out hope on things going well after this point. Bane was straight up clobbering me. The tentacles just couldn’t touch him. I had lost all knowledge of fighting by this point. I really thought I was going to lose.

Thankfully, I managed to use my super move and end the match before he ended me.

Fight 7: Poison Ivy

The fight began in the Empire Theatre Prop Room before kicking down to the Empire Theatre in Gotham.

Thank you Ivy. I really didn’t need the false confidence this fight gave me, especially because I didn’t believe it. I managed to get a perfect match. I don’t know how. I don’t know what sorcery happened considering I almost lost the last match. She didn’t even attempt to fight. It was strange and I don’t even know how to describe the match. Just know that it was my first perfect match in a very long time.

There was no super move to end the match.

Fight 8: Brainiac

I somehow fucking won this match. I shouldn’t have. There was, maybe, 10% of my health bar left by the end of this match. Through the power of sheer idiocy, I won this match with a last second level transition/super move hit. I’m still in disbelief that I won on the first try. It makes the fact I managed a perfect match all the less unbelievable. I really don’t know what to say.

The Ending

Of course, I knew going into the fight that I was a Brainiac from a different multiverse. The entire thread of the battle simulator hinges on defeating Brainiac from the main story. It’s not much of a story if I win. It also wouldn’t make sense that I would fight another Brainiac for no impact on the ending. The story itself is bland. Since I don’t really know Brainiac and his origins, having a descendent come defeat him and tell me a story that probably requires knowledge about Brainiac doesn’t excite me. It felt like the game expected me to know the politics of the 31st century and the Legion that Brainiac 5 has to answer to. I don’t and I almost don’t care.

Overall Score: 1,064,656

What the fuck. I almost lost two fights with this idiot and somehow, he’s managed to dethrone Catwoman for top spot. I’m speechless.

Top Five Ranking of Characters:

  1. Brainiac (1,064,656)
  2. Catwoman (1,063,054)
  3. Green Arrow (1,057,829)
  4. Black Canary (1,047,908)
  5. Doctor Fate (1,040,263)

Until the next battle, where I don’t even know what’s going on anymore.
